Last week Jayne and I attended an event sponsored by Ventures (which is a non-profit that helps small businesses) Jayne has been with Ventures for years, and they have really helped grow her business. We cannot thank them enough...But back to pitch night. InnoVentures small business pitch contest was held at Optimism Brewery and There were eight final contestants made up of small business owners that were pitching their businesses via power point presentation to receive a small loan to help their businesses. There were 7 judges looking at the contestants for style, presentation of the business numbers in creative way, and need. All the presentations were great, but one stuck out in my mind. Bianca Juarez hispanic mother of three started her business while living in a car. Starting a business while being homeless with three kids. Are you kidding me? She started a house cleaning business and now employs other people too making Bianca a certified badass. Her pitch needed a bit of polishing, but her story is amazing. If I was flush with cash, I'd have written her a check in a New York minute. This is one of those quintessential "pick yourself up by the bootstraps" American dreams. And that my friends, is very empowering. So, if you are in the Seattle area and need (eco friendly) house cleaning or know someone that does, please pass along Bianca's Cleaning Service (425)350-2296, and help support a truly awesome person, and a great business.
